Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Sometimes I sit in awe of how smart the students are in our society today. They come into the library at our school looking for a new adventure. I have many students who cannot wait to come to the library to hang out and check out another book. I sometimes have to make them go back to class because I cannot get them to leave. They love this library and the books we have. They will pick up a book and say "Oh! You have this book?"
Our students try to achieve every year to read a 1,000,000 words or more.
Last year in May we had a severe storm and the library roof was blown off. When August rolled around we had not yet finished renovations. The students would ask me every day, "When is the library going to be open?" Now that we have officially reopened, The students are reaching and achieving unbelievable goals. They check out books every day and I cannot get the books on the shelf fast enough for them.
My Project
This project will be in front of our newly renovated library. In May of last year we had a Serve Storm come through and took Library roof off. We had to have the Library completely renovated.
The front of the Library once had a beautiful Oak Tree.
When the Hurricane came through in August it completely took it down. Now our common area is so dull and boring.
A cute street sign has been purchased, that is going to be installed soon and some beautiful rose bushes. This area still needs to have furniture and things to make it beautiful and a great place for the students to congregate. I hope this area will someday be the center of the school and be a place to meet for the students and the staff.
