My Students

Our classroom is full of active music-making in all forms: playing instruments, singing, composing, conducting, listening, dancing, and everything in between.

Students are always relieved to come to music class because they have the unique opportunity to be expressive, even if that means being loud sometimes!

Students are very interested in composition and improvisation, and take pride in expressing themselves creatively.

My Project

I have created an interactive whiteboard system in my classroom, since there were insufficient funds to install a regular interactive board. The students love being able to interact with the material kinesthetically and use online technology for composition as well. However, many of the best programs created for young children to compose and explore musical concepts with a touch screen are created for tablets. With an iPad, students will have access to all of the applications created for the touch screen. We can use them as a whole class on the projected interactive system, or they can use them individually and in small groups in centers.

Touch screens allow young students to interact with wonderful technology in much more meaningful ways.

Bringing an iPad into the music classroom will open up so many new opportunities for all of the hundreds of students in the school to explore music.
