Students Breakout!Learning in an Out of the Box Way!
My students need Breakout Boxes, a learning gaming platform where students use teamwork and critical thinking to solve a series of challenging puzzles.
My students are a diverse group of learners, eager to explore and discover in our library. Students using the library and participating in Makerspace are committed to a mission which includes respect for each other and respect for library resources.
Our library focus is on literacy, technology, and out of the box thinking.
Collaboration and critical thinking are necessary skills which prepare students for success in our rapidly-changing society. Understanding mistakes are part of learning, my students have adopted an attitude of try, try again. My students are special. They are determined, enthusiastic, and eager to learn through authentic library activities.
My Project
Breakout boxes are a highly engaging way for students to use teamwork and critical thinking skills. With a breakout box students are challenged to solve puzzles based on a variety of clues.
Our first Breakout Box activity will be used to better understand the library's databases.
Students will have to search databases in order to find the answers needed to solve puzzles, ultimately unlocking a series of locks on the breakout box.
The great thing about Breakout Boxes is they are not a "one and done" activity. Breakout Boxes can be reset (redesigned) with a variety of content: math, history, science, social studies, etc. The boxes will be used in the library, but can also be lent to classroom teachers for their own Breakout activities.
