My students need a movable easel.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Every child is unique and with their differences comes a need to learn in their own special way. I teach math in small groups so I can target their specific learning needs. A movable easel would make my instruction much more efficient.
My students are low performing from poverty environments.
They love school because it is their escape from the chaotic world they live in. I make sure my classroom is a comfortable learning environment where every child, no matter where you come from, can learn. In the past on their math state assessments, roughly half of the students do not meet expectations and I believe it is because they are looked over in the classroom. I believe that small group instruction focused on their individual needs and deficits will help move the struggling students to meet the demands of the curriculum expectations. We have very small classrooms so small group instruction is difficult to organize. Therefore, I spend much of my time moving around to their different groups. It would be very beneficial if I had some compact way of organizing and moving the materials needed to teach the lessons and reteach the concepts.
In order to allow these differentiated groups of learning to occur, I need some way of bringing the learning to them. A movable easel allows me to organize different materials in a compact way and also allows instruction to happen at any location throughout my classroom. I can work with a group at a back table, another group on the front carpet, and another group at their desks. This efficiency in meeting with them happens not only physically in the classroom but also with their academic needs.
My students and I would greatly benefit from a movable dry erase board easel in our classroom.
With their eagerness to learn and my strive to reach every student, I believe we will surpass academic expectations.
