Our school is 600 students strong, and is pretty unique as we have a very diverse group of students in a rural Northern community. We have many students who can speak more than one language and some students who are new to the country. More than half of our students receive a free or reduced-price lunch. As a member of the library staff, I work with students from Pre-K through 5th grade.
The students at our school come from all over the world.
I'm able to interact with all students, teachers, support staff, and administration! It's a fortunate position to be in. The library is a busy part of the school, and students are usually very happy to visit us. We're fortunate to have an excellent book collection, and students make the most of it!
My Project
Students have become so interested in specific books and topics that they want to read the same books and series at the same time. These books will make it possible for them to read together and talk about what they're reading.
The more they discuss what they're reading and build excitement, the greater the chance we have of building lifelong readers.
This is all being done organically--we are not requiring this. It's simply something they are interested in and love to do.
I love hearing them talk about their favorite characters and plots. This is what it's all about!
