Students Affected by Hurricane Maria Make Progress Through iBook
My students need an Apple Macbook to help with learning English as a second language. It will help my students with visual references, vocabulary and much more for student those that were displaced by Hurricane Maria.

My Students
I have some truly amazing students. They are a group of hard working students with learning disabilities . My classroom is full of active learners that have difficulty staying engaged. In addition, many of our students are also English Language Learners. Some of them have been displaced because of Hurricane Maria. Most of them are the only English speakers in their household. Despite all the challenges they may face, my students maintain their dedication to learning.
This is notable especially because our school is Title I, meaning that over 95% of our students qualify for the free/reduced price meal program based on the economic statuses of their families.
My Project
I'm requesting this computer so my students can show creativity when working collaboratively to create and illustrate an iBook. Apple offers a free app for Macbooks, iBook Author, allowing students the opportunity to create and publish books for iPad and Mac with galleries, videos, interactive diagrams, and 3D objects. iBooks bring content to life in ways the printed page never could. My students will work in groups to create a book from start to finish. They will be required to incorporate critical thinking by synthesizing the groups ideas to make a masterpiece. Students can use the computer to research topics of interest, and they can brainstorm ideas for the composition of the book. Critical thinking is the next step, students have to take the information they learned and apply their new knowledge in creating a unique book with illustrations. During a classroom discussion, they will collaborate, communicate, and critique their peers. My students have the odds stacked against them. It is difficult for my students to see themselves as college graduates.
They need to be inspired, challenged, and introduced to the exciting world of learning.
They have many challenges to overcome. Please help bridge the gap between learning and technology in students' lives. Early access to a technology will give them a distinct advantage throughout their education and adult lives. They need your help to become prepared for the future.
