I teach students who have been identified as Gifted and Talented in my school district. These students are amazing and unique. Their gifts are so very diverse.
Our students come from primarily economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
These students have the ability to process information at a level that is advanced for their age. This means, I have the amazing pleasure of putting as much information in front of them as possible.
While they do have the ability to process that information, please help me give them the opportunity to discover information with this project.
We really appreciate the help. Our community is still recovering from the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey. For so many of these students, school is the only safe and consistent place in their lives right now. Thank you for helping to maintain that peace.
My Project
Each year the Texas Library Association (TLA) nominates 20 books for the Texas Bluebonnet Award. Students in grades 3 - 6 who read at least 5 of the nominated titles, earn the right to vote for their favorite book.
Port Arthur ISD's Gifted & Talented program has participated in this program for the last 3 years.
We have seen this program encourage even the most reluctant readers. They want the chance to vote for their favorite book. As a teacher, this could not be more exciting!
One of the challenges, we face is not having enough of each title for the students to check-out and read. With your generous support, we will be able to provide more copies of each book for students to check-out and read.
Thank you for taking the time to check out this project.
