The school is composed of a diverse group of students varying from different backgrounds, learning styles, and interests! This is a brand new school that already brings in a lot of creativity, outside experiences, and ideas that contribute to the overall positive and unique learning environment. Composed of many different nationalities from around the world, this heterogeneity school has a group of dedicated teachers and staff that collaborate and actively learn from one another that contributes to the unique learning needs our students exhibit and help them achieve academic and personal success.
Having a diverse group of students has brought many behavioral challenges that several students exhibit through outside personal experiences.
These student need specific and individualize support and assistance to help regulate their emotions that will lead to success in the classroom. Despite our challenges, each individual that makes up this school's community is bright, resilient and caring; characteristics that we all share and have in common!
The materials we are needing will be geared specifically to the brain state of our students who demonstrate erratic and unregulated behaviors on a daily basis. Such materials would include items for our sensory center that will preventably help students stay calm and regulate their emotions throughout the day, or to help those students who are disregulated to then become regulated. These items are all linked to a specific part of the brain that helps with self-regulation (weighted blankets and vests, sock blanket, moon sand, play-dough, fidgets, developmental activities and items, coloring, etc). Other items will meet students needs through snacks that maybe the students do not have access to at home. Research states when appetite needs are not met it can cause disregulation throughout the body.
