Student Support Center Needs Storage for Mindfulness Supplies

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is an inner-city school in which most of the population will be the first in their family to attend college. Many of my students are minority, immigrants or first-generation Americans like myself. Their parents work hard to provide a safe home environment for them with few resources. Our school is a compassionate place to work where the staff gives unconditionally to our students and families. We are currently changing our in school suspension room into a student support center which forests self reflection and ownership through restorative practice and mindfulness.
My Project
My class project was inspired by our current work on mindfulness. Mindfulness is simply focusing on what is happening here and now. Our disengaged students struggle with managing their lives choices. Mindfulness empowers them to utilize strategies that allow them to be present in the moment.
This school year we have changed our current In School Suspension Room into the new "Student Support Center" where we are using Restorative Practices for students to take ownership of their actions and begin the healing process.
As an Equity Leadership Project, I am part of a team of teachers who are elevating our mindfulness practices at our school. Currently, when students are assigned to the Student Support Center they are responsible for their academics they also participate in healing circles and Mindful Meditation. A Restorative Practice approach is leading the change in how we handle disengaged students who are struggling with behavior problems, class cuts, and truancy.
Through the generosity of previous funded donor choose projects, we have received Mindful Supplies and in this project we are asking for a storage unit to hold the supplies. I am also asking for 2 graphing calculators for when students are assigned time in our support center they have the technology to keep them engaged in their academics (especially in their Mathematics classes ;-).
