Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a school that consists of a majority of students that are on free/reduced-lunch, and most of my student population is Hispanic. My students go through a lot of challenges financially, socially and even mentally and I am amazed at how much they are capable of. They are resilient, innovative and most of all curious about the world around them.
My students are special and deserve the opportunity to learn in a positive, fun, and open classroom no matter what kind of background they are coming from!
My Project
Many of my students will come to school on the first day with no supplies at all. While this is not the case for all of my students, I want everyone to be able to have the same opportunities to be successful in my classroom.
How will the supplies be used?
A math classroom can never have too many pencils, Kleenex are always in scarce supply in a high school, and Clorox wipes will help keep the inevitable germs at bay during the school year. These supplies will help my students all year!
In addition, in my Algebra class I have each student keep a math notebook. We glue in all sorts of things and take notes every day. I have the kids use colored post-it notes to write important information on and stick in their notebooks. Writing info on colored paper can help some visual learners remember things better.
