My students need 45 copies of the book "7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens" to learn what habits they need in order to be successful in school and in life. They also need personal workbooks and a reflections book.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In the news today, we hear about the massive cuts being made to education. Yet we expect our children to be successful members of society without giving them the proper training and tools. Together we can change that and give our children a chance to have a bright and promising future.
Many of my students are economically disadvantaged and as such, affording additional books and/or supplies is not always something that they can do.
The school is suffering as all other public schools in California are. With severe budget limitations, it has become necessary to prioritize our funds to meet the most important needs (providing books, lab materials, etc.) of our students. My students need to learn new habits that will increase the likelihood of them being successful in school. With better habits, their chances of succeeding in high school and gaining entrance into college increases exponentially. In many cases, the students who struggle have problems not because of a lack of desire, but they just do not understand how to be good students (what habits they need to have).
My Project
I am requesting one set of the book 7 Successful Habits of Highly Effective Teens and additional resource books to help my students improve not only what they are learning, but the ways in which they learn. These materials will be used in my AVID class with the goal of getting my students into college and becoming positive members of society.
Many of my students have great potential, but have not yet mastered the ideas behind how to become life-long learners. Through the use of this book and the accompanying activities that AVID has encouraged, I will be able to better train my students to be more successful in not only their academic life, but also their personal lives.
With so many bad habits developing in our teens today, it is essential that we try and teach them good ones as well.
Through the activities of this book, I will be able to help my students stay on the positive track to college and become lifelong learners.
