My students are always eager to learn and read. They enjoy learning and I enjoy finding ways to make the learning fun and engaging for them. The students in my school are from a low income and very rural area. Most students do not have a lot or even access to a lot in our small community. The students know the challenges facing them since we are in such a high poverty area.
As my students' teacher, I am always looking for ways to motivate them to want to do better in my classroom and in all other areas of their schooling.
I teach all of the 5th grade students in our school. We switch classes in order to better prepare them for the transition to middle school next year. We just started this school year and I am even starting to think and look ahead to what will be needed to finish the new year strong.
My Project
My students this year already have a subscription to Scholastic Storyworks, and they love it. I want to go ahead and attempt to get a subscription for next year funded for my future students. The students love that there are all different kinds of articles in this magazine.
The students at my school do not have new and updated reading books.
The books we are using were copyrighted the year that my students were born. I know stories do not go out of date or style, but times change and the nonfiction pieces are dated. It is then hard to get the students interested in these pieces.
