Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am proud to teach first grade at a Title I elementary school. It is a small school, located in the north-east part of Albuquerque, New Mexico, near the beautiful Sandia Mountains. The students at our school have had many generations of their families attend the school, which makes it a close-knit community. For example, the cheerful elderly gentleman down the road takes pride in having a photo of himself as a child still hung up in the front office.
Our school is special because it has a diverse population of families from many different cultures and backgrounds.
I believe it is important to incorporate each child's unique individuality into the class identity. This helps each student to be proud of who they are, and also encourages them to be open to the diverse cultures of their peers.
My students are a fun, high energy bunch, who learn best from being involved in hands-on activities.
All of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. I am a first-year teacher, and all of my classroom materials are completely funded by myself and the generosity of others.

My Project
My classroom lacks proper storage for my students supplies. I have round tables where the students sit, and they do not have a place to store their materials and books. They keep them on the table which makes it crowded, and takes away from the space they need to work. Having their supplies in view can also be a distraction during class time. Chair covers that hold students supplies will keep the tables clear and reduce disturbance during lessons. They will also and give each student their own place to keep their things, while having their books pencils and folders accessible to them when they need them. Thank you for your support!
