I am a first-year sixth grade teacher to a group of wonderful 11 and 12-year old learners. My students are independent and are eager to learn new information that is relevant to their own lives. They love to experiment with new ideas and love to share their knowledge and experiences with peers and adults.
Middle school can be a rough time for young students because they are going through many changes, their classroom experience is changing and they are trying to express themselves in new ways.
My students are also unique because many of them are students of military parents. I want to provide my students with as many wonderful experiences as possible this year, as they prepare to go into junior high.
I am a first year teacher and right now my classroom is completely empty. My student need storage containers to keep their work and school supplies in during the school day. I will need an area to keep their work for conferences, to store their writing, to put absent work, graded work and much more. Additionally, my students will need pencil sharpeners in their room so that they won't have to stress about broken pencils. Not all of my students are going to have personal sharpeners, so it is important that they can access them in the classroom.
Finally, my classroom library is empty; My students need books for our classroom so that they are encouraged to read and to love reading!
I don't want my students to only be able to read the assigned classroom readings. I want them to find books in genres they enjoy and to be able to see themselves in the books they are reading.
