Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

At a recent fund-raiser I received a sample of a literacy series called "Bob Books". Within a few days I began to see dramatic success from my special education students following the program. For example, a student sounded out the word "rag" only 3 days into the program. This is the first time he has independently sounded out a word. The program also works with basic comprehension skills, which my students often miss out on. Because I teach special education, many of my students are far below grade level. This program has already begun to really change their lives. I would like to have the complete series in order to continue their progress. Students engage in one-on-one teacher instruction with the use of Bob Books. After the students practice with the teacher, they then study the book. Here they are able to target vowel sounds, which often is their greatest difficulty. The objective of this program is to have students move away from Bob Books and into independent reading. Once students use the Bob Books they improve their independent reading level.
