This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are from 4th and 5th grade. I am creating a Yearbook Club to allow the students to have a creative outlet, and this will let them have some control in the keepsake they will have forever. The students are from Petersburg, Virginia and many come from low-income families. Several of my students come to school each day reacting to home issues and feeling like they lack control of their lives.

My students have the fire of creativity within them, and I want to help fuel their desire to learn.

My Project

My students come from a variety of backgrounds. Having digital cameras will allow them to experience technology firsthand, and it will aid them in their creative project by letting them show the school their individual perspective.

Our yearbook is the result of my students' hard work, creativity, and ability to overcome challenges.

My students will be able to capture the events and occurrences of school as they live it. It helps take our yearbook from a simple directory to a scrapbook of personal experiences and memories. The best part is that the students get to choose how they want to proceed with the design of the yearbook. They choose what memories to include, and they get to share these memories with the staff and students of our school.
