Help me give my students a healthy sensory diet. I have students with autism and anxiety disorders that would benefit from having some new sensory choice items in my classroom.
I teach students in middle school with a variety disabilities. My students make teaching exciting with their out of the box ideas for learning strategies. They are motivated to be their best and beyond. These students do not let their learning disabilities define them.
My students believe that their disabilities help them see the world differently!
I encourage this thought process with positive reinforcements. My students are each other's champions, as we always celebrate all classroom and personal successes.
My Project
Many of my students would benefit in having a good healthy sensory diet in the school day. The different items I have chosen for this grant will help with noise, light, and touch when they are feeling anxious or overwhelmed in their general education setting.
Students with autism and anxiety need ways to escape or use sensory to help with moments that can overwhelming in the classroom.
The weighted blankets are awesome for my sensory students to feel that weight like it is a big hug bringing them to their center core. Body socks help with the compress and stretching for all over the body and covering the head from the lights in the school setting. The noise canceling headphones give the students the quiet they need to work in a classroom or be in a large group. The fidget items and sand are great for calming and staying focused in a classroom. The time timer is a silent way for students with anxiety to know how much time is left for work or calming. These items will help continue my effort to provide a safe and healthy environment for all my students.
