Student Safety Patrol Team = Safe & Healthy School
Help me give my students walkie talkie technology to communicate during school arrival and dismissal in order to keep all students safe and healthy during the new COVID protocols!
I am a speech-language pathologist who currently provides direct services to over 60 students in three inner-city schools in CT. My main school has over 500 students in grades preK-8th grade. As of right now our school is open full time, 5 days a week. Our district is requiring specific arrival and dismissal routines this year due to COVID-19 which impact all students and families. All students in my school get free breakfast and lunch.
My Project
COVID-19 has changed the way school arrival and dismissal function this year for all students. There are new protocols on how students must enter and exit the school building every morning and afternoon. These new protocols and procedures have been put in place to keep everyone safe. As a result of the new protocols, our school is starting a student safety patrol program. The middle school students will be allowed to apply and then be put on the patrol team. Communication between the principal and the students chosen to participate is extremely important in order to get students on and off the bus, out of the cars in the morning or in their cars in afternoon, help get the younger students get safely into their classrooms, monitoring the hallways, hand sanitizer stations and breakfast pick up areas, assisting younger students in getting to the after school program line up area, as well as assisting the younger grades during dismissal. Walkie talkie technology will allow each student safety patrol guard to communicate with the school principal information like the bus numbers when they arrive, radio to teachers to let students go when their ride/car pulls up, and/or call inside the building when walkers are all dismissed or they need principal assistance. Our school is excited to start this program. In order to make this work we need walkie talkies to communicate with each other outside and inside the school. The chosen students will get their own walkie talkie and uniform to wear during morning and afternoon patrols. This technology will help the students work as a team and make morning arrival and afternoon dismissal smooth and keep all our students safe and healthy.
