Help me give my students a sensory experience, using sidewalk chalk and slime materials, that they can use as a reward for positive behavior and homework completion! Each month they have an opportunity to earn their spot in a special activity!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with students in 5th through 8th grade. I love meeting them in the elementary school and then helping them with the big transition to the middle school. It gives me joy to watch them grow and mature over the 4 years that I have the privilege of working with them. I get to see them be fun-loving 5th graders who soak up all the knowledge that they can in my guidance lessons, then transition into the "big" 6th grade kids in the middle school, go through the twists and turns of the emotional roller coaster of 7th grade, and then mature and prepare to graduate from our school and embark on their journey to high school in 8th grade.
A main goal that I have as a School Counselor is to give my students the necessary resources and tools to self-regulate during the many emotional and overwhelming periods of middle school.
I center my school counseling curriculum and work with students one on one to teach and practice these essential tools for success. It is my goal that by the time they graduate at the end of 8th grade, they will be able to succeed.
My Project
Each month our School Counseling team runs a "Rewards Day" in our elementary students. Students can earn a spot in the special activity if they demonstrate positive behavior and decision making and homework completion. The great thing about Rewards Day is that each month students get a "clean slate" and new opportunity to earn their spot in the next Rewards Day. We understand that students make mistakes and meeting expectations can be difficult sometimes, but want to reward them when they meet our expectations! Help us create fun activities that will motivate them to do their job at school! The sidewalk chalk will be a spring activity that we run when the weather warms up after a long winter. The rest of the supplies will be used to allow students to make slime-a popular craft and sensory activity among our elementary student population. Thank you for your help!
