Student Printing Center

My students need a laser cartridge for the student printer in the library. Many of our students do not have computers at home, and the library is the only place where they can print their papers on campus. With the budgets frozen, we cannot afford a new cartridge, but students still have papers due.

The library is a secondary public school teaching library where both classes and individuals come to do projects. We have mini-lessons on a variety of topics, such as information literacy. I like to use technology to hook students and even go to classrooms to teach lessons and get students interested in various books and topics. I also teach mini-lessons in the library on how to use the resources present and how to evaluate virtual resources. Although small, the library contains many different materials on many different topics, and students can generally find what they need.

One of the most important components of the library is technology. The printer is part of this focus on technology. Although we have computers, they are outdated and slow. Also, we cannot afford any paid databases, such as EBSCO or J-STOR. In addition, because our online catalog can only be accessed through the local server, we cannot have e-books. Right now, though, all we are asking for is the printer cartridge so that students can continue to work on assignments.

Being technologically literate is incredibly important for every student, as this affects their future prospects. Students need to possess basic word processing skills and be information literate in terms of evaluating different resources for accurate, relevant, and reliable information. Part of our mission is to make this happen, but we cannot do it alone. We need the support of community members. Right now, in order to continue with lessons and have readily available consumables, we need a printer cartridge.

Your help aids us in our endeavor to empower students in discovering the vast potential that they possess. The more resources we have available, the more we are able to help students succeed.
