Mrs. Way from Savannah GA is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 15 yoga mats and 15 yoga blocks to use during their weekly practice, which will help them release stress and learn theraputic breathing techniques.

"Yoga teaches us to cure what need not be endured and endure what cannot be cured." ~ B.K.S. Iyengar
My students are typical 9th graders at a title one inner-city school in Georgia.
As 14 and 15-year-olds, they are actively engaging in self exploration socially and academically. They are respectful, hard workers, who need a little extra guidance learning how to be still, introspective, and patient. Many of them live in areas that are not safe to exercise and play outside, causing them to spend increased sedentary time indoors.
We are requesting yoga mats and blocks to practice a single sex yoga class once a week during our instructional focus period. We have already had one class with ten football players and they did an awesome job! We already have 25 girls signed-up for our next session! Our only problem is that beach towels are less than ideal on our slick floors. Most of my students have never practiced yoga before. This is a free opportunity for them to exercise in a safe place, while reaping the mental benefits from regular yoga practice.
Our weekly yoga class will build community among our students.
It will teach them effective ways to respond to stress and challenges on and off their mat. It will release endorphins, allowing them to be in a better state of mind for learning. It will help promote a greater awareness of their bodies and health, creating the potential to positively impact them for the rest of their lives.
