My kindergarten students are from East Central Spokane, WA. They are coming into school with many things being new to them! It is amazing the progress they have made already since the beginning of September.
They are a fun, creative and inquisitive group of students.
As an ELL cluster class, we are constantly making connections and building vocabulary around things that are currently unknown to them. Building background knowledge and experiences though hands on activities, and providing stimulating activities where they can be social.
As a classroom with a mismatch group of tables and chairs, maneuvering and organization of student materials is not always the easiest. I continue buying the cheap chair pockets but end up having to "mend" or replace them multiple times throughout the year.
I do my best to provide a sense of home and stability.
With the family mentality I focus on our manners and responsibilities. My students are responsible for taking care of their belongings/area, sharing materials and helping with class jobs.
With chair pockets that will hold their belongings, without breaking, our classroom will function without distraction. Students will be able to be responsible for their area without materials falling out all over.
