Our classroom is a comfortable and safe place where we come together to read and write and learn about ourselves and our world. My students have a voice and choice here and are respected and encouraged to share.
They need to see themselves in the books of our classroom library.
They need to read books that motivate them to craft beautiful sentences. They need to have current publications across a wide variety of genres to inspire their love of reading and writing.
My students are smart, funny, engaging, and curious. They're the reason I love my job!
My Project
Research shows that practice makes perfect when it comes to reading and writing. Students who have a library of engaging books will grow and succeed at both. These books will be readily accessible and showcased in book talks to increase interest and excitement. All of the books listed have starred reviews on Kirkus Reviews.
This book list was curated with the help of my students.
Students with increased opportunities to read will develop a lifelong love of reading.
Adding these books to my classroom lending library will motivate my students to read voraciously. Students have time in class each day to read a favorite book and this daily habit of reading is another way for them to improve fluency and increase enjoyment in reading. Plus, the best writers are always readers!
