Do you remember the excitement of having new school supplies? We need a place that we can store and access our school supplies and writing binders quickly!
We are a 3rd grade classroom in an urban setting.
My students are diverse in cultures and bring a wide variety of experiences into the classroom. Our school has a high poverty level. The majority of our students receive free or reduced lunches. In our classroom we have tables to promote cooperative work, which means students don't have their own personal space to store their supplies and writing binders.
My Project
"Please get your writing binders and supplies for Writer's Workshop," are the directions my students hear. Now imagine 18 students going to one side of the room to get writing binders from a shelf that is falling apart. Next they walk to another falling apart shelf to retrieve their writing supplies. I want my writer's to spend their time crafting their stories into pieces others will want to read, not spending time getting all their tools from opposite sides of the room. This shelving unit contains slots on the top to hold their writing binders with spots on the bottom to house their supplies. By having all their supplies in one central location, I hope my students will spend more time drafting and publishing their stories.
Since we are a high poverty school, many of our students do not have a place to call their own.
My hope is to give the students a place where they can store their supplies and access their writing binders while teaching them some organization skills. Your donation will assist our classroom to become more cohesive, organized and maximize our learning time.
