Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a school that serves Kindergarten through 4th grade students. We are a Title I school where 100% of students receive free breakfast and lunch. We also have a very high population of ELL students, many of whom do not speak English. We are constantly looking for innovative and interesting ways to help these students reach their full potential.
Despite their challenges, my students come to school eager to learn.
Providing ways to help them achieve their personal goals and encouraging them to be life-long learners is my ambition.
My Project
By having these two storage units, my 60 students who come through my classroom each day will have easy access to the books they love.
My students love to read and need a place for their books to be more easily accessible.
It is difficult for them to find books on their level and personal interest due to lack of space to put them. They need to be able to see the covers and labels so they can quickly find a book and start reading!
They often spend time digging through the books instead of reading them because they are so packed together. The books also have to be rotated because they do not all fit. I want them to be able to have a full range of access to all the books that are available to them.
