This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our students are 1st and 2nd graders from diverse backgrounds. More than half of our students are low income children. They are able to experience a unique Montessori and French education that is unavailable at other public schools in the city.
Our students are loving, curious kids, who are eager to learn and experience new things.
Our goal is to eventually be a fully bilingual French school. Since many of our students are starting with the language as 2nd graders, they have some catching up to do. We would be so grateful to receive these resources that would improve our French instruction.
My Project
These tablets will facilitate personalized learning for my language instruction. Each small group of students creates their own digital glossaries of personalized vocabulary lists to represent the French vocabulary each group is most interested in learning.
This student-led vocabulary makes the hard work of learning the structure of the language more fun and exciting, and gives students ownership of their knowledge.
I have asked for enough tablets so that there are enough to be shared by working partners in my largest group. The headphones will allow students to access the wide variety of available French language learning apps when there are extra tablets available, increasing the amount of French they interact with in the day. My personal favorite are French text read-aloud story apps. These apps allow my students to interact with accents and stories from around the world for a fraction of the cost of physical books.
