This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a California, urban, Title I charter school. We sadly have very little funding, and our students come from poor backgrounds. I also have a high percentage of students with special needs. My students wanted to help create this project to get an art tablet!
My students helped develop this project because many of them struggle to become better artists. One way that students like to improve their drawing is by finding something they want to draw online. Once they find an image, they get to print it out and look at it to replicate. This is especially helpful for my students with special needs who often times find visual images easier to draw.
My students will develop many college and career readiness skills if they get this tablet. My students will be able to independently research artists online, find images to draw and paint, and be able to research art colleges. In addition, my students will develop their teamwork skills because they will be working in pairs or small groups to use the tablet. My students have told me that they wished each of them could use a tablet or laptop during class, but we simply do not have the resources for that. They have told me that they would be willing to share a tablet or take turns. I believe this shows how caring my students would be if you would donate to their project.
In Their Own Words
My project idea is to use a tablet for art class. My classmates and I currently use my teacher's laptop to look-up images online. We feel very grateful that our teacher lets us find images and print them out, so we can draw them and become better at drawing. Many of my classmates have special needs and being able to look at something, like a laptop or tablet, really helps them focus and do good work.
I will be a leader in bringing this project to life by taking care of the tablet, sharing with my partner, and by being careful not to break it. My class already had a Student Led project funded and we got many new art supplies. We are so happy with them, and we treat them with respect. At the end of each class, my teacher has us clean-up and make sure everything is put away correctly. I promise that if you donate, I will help my classmates be responsible and care for the tablet.
This project is important to my community and me because it will help all of us become better artists and citizens. I want my artwork to look more professional and being able to find pictures online will help me do that. Every month my school has a Family Night where all the parents come to school. We get to show our parents our artwork at the Family Night. This tablet would help me make better artwork to show at the Family Night. Please donate what you can because every little bit matters.
