Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

About My Students

The president, Aneesha, will maintain the storage carriers and laptop to organize and monitor younger students so that they can learn what to do once she graduates. These items will not only impact our students, they will assist the community and their pets as well.

I teach Humane Education and I am the anti-bully specialist. The students developed this project as an extension what we learned in class. The students feel that they can help the community by supplying free pet food and immunizations for their pet, and will assist with the financial burdens the family may be facing. Students feel that if they can help the families out, they would not feel pressured to take the family pet to the shelter, which may lead to an unfavorable outcome.

Students will develop college and career readiness skills that will better prepare them for their future, which will definitely improve the community. Students will learn how to communicate to a diverse group of residents, develop computer skills by keeping data and creating fliers, and develop business skills by soliciting companies for donations to be distributed to residents.

In Their Own Words

My name is Aneesha and I am the leader of this project. This project is to assist the community by any means with their pets. We will supply free pet food, low cost medical assistance, immunizations and grooming supplies. We will aid the residents, by helping to supplement their household finances.

Our teacher will help by advising and exposing us to the many resources she has accumulated in her 31 years of teaching and animal rescue. Ms. Luke will listen to us brainstorm and make sure we are able to carry out our plans. She will make sure we stay focused and organized.

This project will promote compassion for all living things, generate kindness and the importance of giving back to your community. Ultimately, if we are able to assist with a family's financial cost for their pets, and avoid them surrendering them to the shelter, we avoid overpopulating the shelter and lower the euthanasia rate.
