Our school and community are wonderfully diverse. We have many students from multiple races, numerous religious backgrounds, and varying socioeconomic statuses.
In the special education department, we serve students who have severe to mild disabilities; the majority of our students are male, have ADD/ADHD, learning disabilities, or are intellectually disabled.
Our school is a wonderful place to be with such supportive teachers and administration. We have numerous intervention systems in place for students who are struggling in any aspect of their lives. We live in a petite city, and we surely have a small town feel.
My Project
I am hoping to continue this Project-Based Learning activity with our Career Readiness students. My goal is for students to have a student-led business the remainder of the semester with multiple layers and components to it.
My vision is for our students to design, create, and print custom items with the district's 3D printer in which they would also market to students, staff, and the public.
Students would create items such as a nameplate, school mascot, and even custom trophies! The students will create this business from the ground up including the business name and what products they will create along with flyers and other marketing tools. To integrate math skills, students would also budget and track profits.
Profits will be used for a class party in May. Any remaining profits will be used to fund next year's project-based learning unit which will be similar in design.
My goal is to have students practice and use all the soft-skills we've been learning in a real-world situation. I know these students will enjoy this engaging project!
