Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am the resource specialist teacher at our school. My students come from a mix of cultural backgrounds and we are constantly learning from each other. More than three-quarters of the students in our school come from low‑income households. I work with students that have autism, ADHD, and/or specific learning disabilities. However, despite their disabilities, all of my students are given the opportunity to reach their excellence.

What I love most about my students is their diligence, curiosity, enthusiasm, and generosity.

My students are in the general education core curriculum. The workload is sometimes difficult for them, and it requires me to constantly think of ways to help them stay focused and engaged so that they can be successful in the classroom. My students love to learn and are very inquisitive which is another attribute I love about them!

My Project

My students look forward to being able to choose their incentives just like they did when we were all learning from home.

Using amazon gift cards as incentives has been a great motivator for my students to continue working diligently.

This incentive has been working very well with our positive behavior support system. I would like to continue to provide these incentives to my students to acknowledge their consistent effort. I want to keep them engaged and I want them to be able to take responsibility for their learning. The best part of them being able to choose the incentive they want is that incentives are not going to waste. In our "prize box" there are currently many incentives that students have lost interest in, and I don't want that to continue to happen.
