Imagine a learning environment where a large percentage of the students are English learners, outnumbering students that only speak English. These student face greater challenges and need learning experiences that meet and support their individual learning needs.
This largely English learner population face struggles at school and at home.
Resources and support are not always available to students as parents struggle to support their families in an area of very high living expenses. Students want to learn. They simply need the support to do so.
These students need significant support and a learning environment that gives them differentiated, adaptive, and hands on experiences, where they can build their own understanding of vocabulary and phenomena by linking their experiences to the learning. Without these experiences, the challenge of academic language and high level concepts is daunting. With it, their learning and possibilities are without limits!
My students all love to create. With the Circuit Playgrounds, students will create with a purpose! Working with a partner or a team, my students will learn about and brainstorm solutions to a variety of problems in their world, from making pets to meet a friend's needs to designing fun and engaging games that teach about smart water use. These are real problems that need real solutions. Students choose one solution and turn it into a real prototype.
With the Circuit Playground, students turn their ideas into an interactive physical prototype of a product, one that they code, build, test, improve, and share with their peers.
Students learn not only coding, but collaboration, problem solving, critical thinking, and communication as they tackle these problems that affect each and every one of my students.
