My Students

On a typical day in our Media Center, teachers bring their classes down to work on projects using technology tools such as VoiceThread, PhotoStory, or Discovery Education.

Our students and faculty embrace technology and they are excited about the projects they create.

We have 2600 students with diverse backgrounds, and we would love to give them the opportunity to explore new resources as often as possible. We are blessed to have access to interactive resources and to have a space that accommodates multiple classes, but sometimes using these resources and having multiple things happening at once can be distracting.

My Project

If we were granted a class set of headphones with microphones, it would help our students to improve the quality and efficiency of their work. Imagine creating a slideshow project with audio elements using microphones that pick up environmental noise, and then imagine the results of that same project without the background noise. Imagine participating in a lesson that includes a video, when you are two or three minutes ahead or behind the person watching that same video beside you. The distractions really take away from the learning experience, and these headphone-microphones would make a huge difference in that.

Students would not have to deal with background noise while they are recording and would not distract other students while they are listening.

Students often share out their projects to their peers, and the improved quality of their work would make the projects more effective teaching tools. The benefits of this change would reach far beyond their use.
