My students found out I could sew and now on a weekly basis I am mending clothes in between class periods. I want to teach my students how to mend their own clothes, make their own hats and scarves, or even a quilt. Teaching students handicrafts helps give students a creative outlet that keeps them busy. Crocheting has been found to help people find a sense of purpose which eases symptoms of depression and anxiety. Creating projects that can be given back to the community like blankets, scarves and hats also help connect students with their community and build self-esteem. Having sewing machines, sewing kits, and fabric can provide that creative outlet that many students crave. Something as simple as a few crochet hooks and yarn can give my students something to look forward to. So help me help my students learn life long skills and have fun doing it.
The goal is to empower students to make beautiful things and take control of their own lives in a way that is stress free and relaxing.
Overall I think my students would benefit from learning handicrafts and the joy that comes from making something with your own two hands. Please donate so I can provide these experiences for my students.
