"Remember who you are and what we represent". This is what our student leaders believe will help each individual think twice before they act on impulses.
Our school is located in South Sacramento.
It has experienced a lot of challenges and change over the past decade. Most specifically, our school is transitioning from being a middle school to a K-8 school. In order to make a smooth transition for our staff, students, and community our students are dedicated to promote a positive school culture and climate for our community. Moreover, we have embraced the push for the incorporation of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) into every aspect of our students' experience of school. One way we've done this is through our empowerment of student leaders on campus. Student leaders are being empowered by providing SEL cooperative learning activities and team building lessons for grades K-8. Student leaders will teach these lessons to help improve and impress upon best practices for all individuals. Furthermore, these lessons are primarily designed to help build individuals character and change the school's culture in a positive way.
My Project
When students attend the CSUS Peak Adventures Ropes Course, they will employ communication skills learned throughout the school year and in the student government program. This program offers an opportunity for students who have never been on a college campus to not only excel in their cooperative learning skills, but to also understand how they can positively support one another with their physical actions and behavior. They will also have opportunities to learn more about one another, communicate effectively, and motivate each other to strive for the best. Overall, this experience enables students to become better productive citizens for their community.
The 7th and 8th Graders in Student Government are the forefront leaders on our K-8 campus.
These experiences will truly bind them together as a force for positive change, bringing new life, energy, and a sense of family to our school. As individuals, these are activities and challenges many of them have never had the opportunity to experience. This could potentially do wonders for their confidence and ability to step up as role models when they enter high school and throughout life.
