This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in Arleta, CA. Most people that live in Arleta are struggling financially. It is a largely Hispanic community. A large percentage of parents have not mastered English. Most of the parents of my students haven't attended colleges or universities. Many haven't completed high school.

Despite some disadvantages, my students are hard working and show up to school with a great attitude on a daily basis.

They look forward to the day's learning and never use socioeconomic status as an excuse. They bring a tremendous amount of joy to me and I look forward to each and every year that we get to enjoy together.

My Project

When our team has soccer practice after school, we need to use student backpacks for our goals. That is very frustrating for the players and the coach. It is almost impossible to tell if a shot was within the goal area or a miss. It is also impossible to tell if the shot was too high, or just low enough to qualify as a goal.

We've had many discussions about whether or not to count a shot as a goal.

It also makes it difficult for the goalies to practice covering an area without knowing the correct dimensions.

Real soccer goals would make practice so much easier.
