Our school is an unique public inner city school. There are 7 grades with approximately 480 middle and high school students. We are a very small school community with lots of opportunities for hands on and real-world learning.
We work with students with disabilities, trauma history and mental illness.
Many of our students need lots of positive reinforcement to attend and stay in class, stay positive with self and peers and complete work. We find that when we they have the opportunity to get something tangible they tend to meet these expectations.
My Project
The items we are requesting will be used for students who set behavior and academic goals and meet them. We cannot always purchase items that cater to student's interest. This school year we asked our students what they would like to earn for meeting their goals. The first thing they said were fidgets - which is what we have available for students to use when they are feeling restless, sad, anxious and upset.
Having access to these and other reinforcers to give students who meet their behavior and academic goals is essential for academic, social/emotional and behavioral growth and success!
