I have had an amazing group of students these past two years that I have taught. I spent both years trying to not only teach them academics, but how to be good citizens as well. I feel as though they inspired me more than I ever could have thought. The school I work at is 90% free and reduced breakfast and lunch- these kids come from all walks of life and I want to make school not only a safe place to be, but also somewhere they enjoy coming to.
My students need a chance to read and explore beyond the basics. A lot of my kids in my class never get the opportunity to leave Nampa, let alone the state of Idaho. A lot of the stories in StoryWorks give students the opportunity to use their imagination and learn about historical events that really took place. This magazine subscription gives students the ability to read and think about these things. This gives them a worldly idea of what goes on beyond their small community.
I have found that my students have enjoyed reading more when getting the chance to explore these magazines; beyond that however, they have learned about things they never would have on their own.
