Our students are ready to take on the world as they engage in STEM lessons in the classroom. We have passionate teachers that want to provide our students with authentic learning experiences.
Eager to learn, our students have a limited perspective that doesn't expand the confines of our neighborhood.
Students venture outside of this 1-2 square mile area rarely, if ever, unable to see the world and build a global perspective. Many of our students don't realize that we have a college in our area which is less than 6 miles away from our school.
As English language learners, our students need experiences that help them make connections to the world around them.
My Project
The materials I am requesting are to support a Makerspace for all of our elementary students. We want to create an innovative and creative space full of supplies to support STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education.
With these supplies, our students will be engaged in authentic learning opportunites using the engineering design process.
This will allow our students to gain a deeper understanding of science concepts as they apply their knowledge to design solutions for real-world problems.
These supplies will support 4 different 4th grade classes with over 100 students. The LED lights, batteries, copper tape, and snap circuits will be used to support our standards on circuits. The KNEX renewable energy sets will support our students as they learn about renewable resources. The Straw and Connector sets, Connects Imagine sets, and shaker tables will be use for students to design earthquake proof structures. All of the supplies will support our engineering standards.
Although these supplies are geared more towards our 4th grade students, many can be adapted to support different grade levels with their science and engineering standards.
