My students are determined, enthusiastic and excited to learn! They are compassionate classroom citizens who take responsibility for our learning environment. My students are actively engaged in various hands-on learning activities through discovery and exploration. My students learn best through a variety of classroom strategies. Students revel in the opportunity to work in large or small groups, in a guided lesson or a self-directed lesson, as well as teacher lead or technology-based lessons.
Every day my students arrive eager to expand their knowledge and explore new opportunities.
In our rural Maryland school district, many of our students come from low socio-economic and/or ESOL homes. My students relish opportunities for new experiences. They look forward to learning and being an integral part of the classroom community. Therefore, they come to school inquisitive, curious, and just delighted to learn !
I am amazed every day by my students. Their enthusiasm, creativity, determination and humor are contagious. I have been blessed to have taught so many wonderful students !
My Project
Every day my students begin with a whole group lesson on or around my teaching carpet. Students are given choices in how they would like to participate in the lesson. Students are able to stand at a dry erase ledge, sit at a portable dry erase table or sit on the carpet with a dry erase clipboard. When students are given choice, their attention to and participate in the lesson increases. The Surf Lap Desks would give my students another option for work completion and participation.
Students who are given options and choices are often more successful, happier and will take more risks than those students who are taught in a more traditional classroom.
My students will be very excited to have an additional option for lesson participation. My students look forward to being able to access the different methods of participating in the lesson. Student engagement and excitement for learning are some of my classroom goals.
