A group of high achieving students decided to work together to make a student lounge area where students can work in a safe, quiet environment.
Laura, Eres, Chey, Joan, Grace, Laura, Natalie, Savannah and Victoria all got together and began planning the idea. They measured the room, began putting together a plan and a budget to present to the Principal. Our school does not have a lot of money, so they realized they would need to raise some of the money on their own.
We need a couch and chairs to complete our student lounge. Once this project is funded we will begin filling our lounge. We have been told that if we can get it done, a teacher will volunteer to monitor the lounge during lunches so we can open ASAP. We will need to continue to develop our lounge to make it the best work environment possible.
In Their Own Words
This project is very important to us. We are very academic minded students and want a quiet and inviting area to work on independent and group work. The lunch room is very crowded and loud and there are days we just need to get our work completed. Once this project is funded, we will be ready to open our doors and provide this much needed area for our students.
We have to plan this project on our own. We had to research the furniture and shop around for the best prices. We are planning a presentation for our Principal because he said that he would help us fund this project if we did all the planning and organizing of this project.
The goal is to create a safe and quiet study and work environment for students to use during their lunch period. The lunch room is very crowded and it is not conducive to getting any meaningful work accomplished. By creating a student lounge off of the cafeteria, students can eat their lunch and have the opportunity to complete their assignments.
