Our school is located in Southwest, Idaho in the town of Nampa. We are an innovative non-traditional school. We believe in "real world learning." Our students attend internships twice a week instead of going to class. Our students create projects and participate actively in our community. We serve students who desire a different approach to learning. Our students define their individualized path to learning "One Student at a Time" through their interests.
We are a small community of learners who pursue interest based learning through community partnerships, project based learning, workshops, and internships.
We proudly open our doors to the community for various events and see ourselves as an asset to our neighborhood and community.
My Project
One of our senior students would like to develop a Sensory Room.
Hear her own words:
"Here at UHS one of our focuses is on mental health and dealing with trauma.This room would be beneficial to our students because it would help provide a calming space for students to decompress and recharge in an environment supportive of their needs. As stated in the website "How People With Special Needs Can Benefit From Sensory Rooms" What is a sensory room? A sensory room is a space where someone can go and is designed to help them with sensory issues or even to help cope with triggers and calm down. Because brains are wired to taste, touch, smell, hear which is called and see the sensory room, it helps someone to focus on the five senses instead of the problem at hand this is called sensory integration.” It will stimulate the brain and cause a distraction. It can provide a safe space for individuals to destress as well as someone compose their emotions. The sensory room can also rewire the brain to cope healthily. The $130 will go towards purchasing the fidgets and sensory toys. As well as the counter top water dispenser and granola bars for snacks to help calm and destress the students."
