Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you ever walked down a school hallway and noticed how without the student work, it would be very sterile looking? Our students creativity and hardwork displayed on the bulletin boards makes the hallways inviting, not only to other students but to teachers and families alike!
My class is a class of 25 kindergarteners with unique personalities and varying academic levels ranging from kindergarten to 2nd grade.
We are a kindergarten ICT class, 40% special education students and 60% regular education students. My students are part of a larger school community of about 700 students. Compared to other New York City Schools we are much smaller. While our small size has a lot of pros there are also many cons; one being the lack of space that our school has along with a smaller budget. While we try to use our budget wisely providing a great number of resources for our students, we often do not have many of the things that we need to help all our students be successful.
My Project
The children in my class love to share their knowledge and creations with each other. One way they do this is by posting their work around the classroom and hallways on bulletin boards and creating wall displays.
Bulletin boards are an essential part of learning and give kids the self esteem needed when they see their exemplar work displayed.
My students love to create new bulletin boards each month, however, we are running out of the supplies needed to support this love. The children need bulletin board paper, construction paper, tissue paper, cardstock and paint to show off their talents. This year has been the most creative group of kids when it comes to displaying they work. Not only are they proud to display it in unique ways, but they are given the confidence and self esteem boost needed to keep working hard. Many teachers and students in our building have complimented our classes bulletin boards this year, and the students faces light up when they hear they were given another compliment from someone in the school. Please consider helping us restock our supply to continue creating these works of art!
