Think of the many stresses that plague adults. These are the types of stresses that are affecting my students. Coming from low-income families, students are carrying the weight of too many burdens that they don't deserve to be carrying. The students and community are what embody the spirit of the school. They are fun, loving, eager, and diverse!
The students that enter my classrooms are eager for experiences that go beyond education.
They are invested in the world around them!
My students come every day with a warm and grateful heart. They are welcoming and forgiving creatures that deserve the best the education system has to offer!
My Project
The materials in this project are to create and fulfill a student command and ready center where students can have all of the necessities during the school day. I plan fun and exciting projects and sometimes I spend upwards of $200 a semester of my own money to give the kids what they need.
Creating a command center and keeping the student supplies fully stocked will help cultivate a positive and creative learning environment.
We are currently focusing on visual learning and project based learning. I recently bought 6 of the giant post it paper packs, and that pushed me over my budget, which is why I decided to seek some assistance.
One really neat project we are doing right now in English is called "Silent Debates." We are reading Night by Elie Wiesel, and I create prompts on large paper and have the students silently debate or converse with one another. It is REALLY neat! This is where the the markers and other art supplies are needed.
The other really cool thing I have implemented in my class is a "coffee house" reward system. For students who are constantly doing what is asked of them, they can study/read/or work on a paper in my "coffee house" where they sit near me and get to enjoy coffee and a snack. The snacks have gone over really well, and I can afford the snacks, but the coffee maker and the coffee-I again needed help.
