Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are an enthusiastic, active, curious group of six-and-seven-year-olds. They begin every day full of life and ready to share their thoughts and ideas. They love to spend their time in school questioning, exploring, and learning.
Our school is located in the South Bronx, and it is in one of the poorest districts in the country.
All students in the school are eligible for free breakfast and lunch, and a percentage of our students are in temporary housing. Many students come from Spanish speaking homes, and English is their second language.
My Project
The goal of this project is to provide my students with more choice. Each student learns at their own pace in their own way. By creating more options through flexible seating, puzzles, and centers my students can take more ownership of their learning.
Choice is a powerful tool in motivating students to pursue learning by making it enjoyable and promoting greater enthusiasm and interest in learning.
This, along with differentiation, is essential for student success. The Amazon Fire Tablets will allow students to access to various reading and math programs and games. The puzzles are differentiated and will provide students with number concepts, reading, and problem solving skills.
The Calming Color pillows and bean bags will provide students with choice to do their learning in a way that is most comfortable and appropriate for them. They will be a great addition during independent reading and writing time!
