My students are hard working, driven, and passionate students who come from across the twin cities area. Each has their own story, their own voice, and each is unique and different. They come from a vast variety of communities bringing the strengths of their lived experiences to share with each other.
Many students in my class are learning to embrace the increased freedom - and the associated responsibilities - of middle school.
Every day in my classroom, my students work on reading, writing, speaking and listening in an effort to develop their voice. They learn to think about the words and thoughts of their peers and welcome the opportunity to advocate for themselves, their communities, and their passions with a conviction that I can only admire.
My Project
Every day in my classroom, students are reading books from my classroom library that they choose. We take time to ensure they understand how to navigate the library and find books that are great for them. However, libraries always need updating.
The books in this project were selected by students to make a better classroom library.
Each book has a student excited to read it when it arrives, or to recommend to a friend who they know will love it. Student agency is essential, and this project allows students to feel ownership over their library.
