Help me give my students organization! The drawers will allow for students to choose different activities during Reading and Math Workshop promoting student-centered learning!
I teach in a school that is more like a family. We have some of the best teachers in the state. I am lucky to be in a school that is surrounded by happiness and joy. I teach a variety of first graders who come from a diverse sent of socioeconomic backgrounds, along with many who are on free or reduced lunch. My students are in need of materials to help them actively engage in math and reading each day. My kids come from high poverty homes, where most of them are only exposed to educational materials/books when they enter my classroom. I try to provide them with a print-rich environment that is inviting and interesting. I understand that I might be the only smile or only hug they may get that day.
I wake up every day ready to see whose light bulb will turn on.
I wake up every day ready to impact their lives so, in turn, they will change the world. My kids inspire me every day. I teach first-grade students in an urban school district. Families are not able to provide their kids with the proper materials to be successful in school.
My Project
I believe when students are in charge of their learning, they will respond better to instruction and retain more of their learning. By creating an organized environment that students can take ownership of their learning will produce some amazing results.
Allowing students time to reflect on goals, reflect on their learning, and reflect on what product proves their knowledge of content can create a powerful, student-centered classroom.
I want my students to become more self-directed learners, but to get there I need to get organized! Drawers and containers that are easily accessible to students throughout the day will allow my class to have everything right at their fingertips!
