My Students

My students are fun and curious and full of energy. Every child is unique and a gift to me for a year! I love providing them with a classroom that is a home away from home. A safe haven where they experience success, learn and grow. A child's development is influenced by his or her environment and the experience had there.

First graders enjoy moving in a variety of ways and they feel empowered by movement.

In first grade children transform into true readers, their vocabulary rapidly increases, and they prefer open ended experiences. They are developing more sophisticated math strategies and enjoy scientific discoveries.

They become confident in showing off what they know and what they can do. They are learning and developing strategies for better self control. They thrive in settings with organization and routines.

My Project

Flexible seating is the foundation of today's hottest pedagogues in education. It allows students to identify and choose what they find most comfortable and better yet gets them motivated to learn. This concept provides various types of seating options spread throughout the classroom. Along with clear classroom rules and expectations students now can choose from traditional seating options or an alternative option. The Sorftzone Carry Me Floor Cushions will provide the perfect amount of comfort for the low table we have now when the students are working on their word work and the Stack Stools will be perfect for our round table for playing math scoot games where they have to move quickly around the table working on task cards.

This alternative seating movement puts students in charge of their own learning from the bottom up!

Student-centered learning begins with students picking a seating style that best fits their learning style. Not only does it give the students a choice but it builds community and collaboration, provides needed comfort and movement, & motivation to earn and keep favorite spots! The Kidkraft Outdoor Patio Set is bound to be a favorite writing spot. I can Imagine four little ones there right now in a little corner nook of the room at a table just their size working under the umbrella. The KidKraft Double Chaise Lounge will prove to be the most popular reading spot in the room!

The benefits of flexible seating are numerous. It aids in making the room a warm inviting environment and is aesthetically pleasing. Most importantly it helps make learning fun! Parent's often comment that their child now has a completely different attitude about school and that they love coming to school. Flexible seating classrooms result is a room full of relaxed, active, engaged, and enthusiastic learners!
