Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every day I wake up feeling like the luckiest person on Earth for getting to teach an amazing group of inquisitive and resilient 3rd graders. Yes, they all come from low-income households. Yes, the majority of them are performing significantly behind academically. Yes, most are identified as English Language Learners, Student With Disabilities, or both.
In spite of all the challenges my students face, they are the most hard working and enthusiastic bunch.
Their eagerness to become stronger readers and mathematicians is inspiring.
My goal is for all of my students to get access to the resources they need to succeed. No excuses! With your support, I can bring these much needed resources into their hands.
My Project
A lot of learning happens over the course of a school year. There are plenty of Aha! moments when third graders are introduced to new concepts such as equivalent fractions or when they get to read and analyze a novel, or big chapter book as my students call them, in their book clubs. Sadly, as students complete assignments and start new units, much of the work students complete have to be sent home to make room for new evidence of learning. My goal with these binders is for my student to create and maintain a working portfolio. In it, they will keep completed classroom tasks in math and literacy organized to authentically show their productivity, growth, and development over the course of the school year.
