My Students

"One thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain" This Bob Marley quote shows why music is so important to young urban youth

The youth are getting restless!

Our school is a re-purposed elementary school that has been closed for six years. We started with four walls and a lot of enthusiasm. Our school mission is to be a strong community school and our community wants a great school chorus, band and guitar ensemble. So far we have students with experience and talent, but not enough supplies to keep up with the talent. We are reaching multiple avenues for assistance, and we are looking to expand our program by adding guitar to our offerings this fall.

My Project

Our students have requested an opportunity to play guitar. Our class of 26 students only has 10 guitars. The addition of three guitars would allow each student to learn with a partner to provide support when working in class. Our ensemble plans to learn melodic and harmonic content to perform as a group as well as accompany our chorus. As students learn they make mistakes and snapping guitar strings is one of them. The package of guitar strings will ensure we call all strum away!

Our students are incredibly motivated to grow our department.

The addition of these guitars would support the 3rd and final leg of our department (band, chorus, guitar). We are planning to have our guitar groups perform at a holiday concert that our school will be giving at our Statehouse during the holiday season.
