I teach guitar classes as well as concert band. In addition, I run an after-school brass ensemble and am the assistant marching band director.
Throughout all of my classes and activities, my students show a desire to learn about music and the enjoyment it can create in their life.
Many of my students begin their musical exploration in my guitar class, leading them to take further music courses and dive more deeply into the subject. Students opt to take another year of guitar, music theory, keyboard, or even join one of our ensembles. This has helped grow our music classes and programs each year.
Part of keeping students motivated and interested involves the use of well-maintained and high-quality materials. With the yearly growth of our guitar electives (with most classes at capacity), having enough instruments and maintaining them has become more of an issue.
My Project
With the constant growth of enrollment in our guitar classes, it has become more difficult to ensure we have enough instruments for everyone to use. I believe strongly in having well-maintained and high-quality guitars, as it increases students' motivation and overall dedication.
My goal is to make sure each student has a great working instrument that can be properly stored in a quality case.
A number of cases need to be replaced that are worn out or do not protect the guitars well enough.
Also, we are in need of an additional guitar to accommodate our larger classes. In addition, the few guitar stands we have are old and do not securely hold the instruments properly.
